When it comes to trends and trending clothes don’t always come into it often the most exciting trends are of the digital kind.  There is nothing more unifying that a damn good game, it doesn’t really matter if you are an X-box, PlayStation or Wii  type of guy an session with your mates conquering the virtual world is an afternoon well spent.  The most creative among us are not just satisfied with playing the game straight – they like to add their own commentary and record  the game play so we can all enjoy the high jinx on YouTube.

When you discover your hidden talent of making game play exciting and fun you can set up your own YouTube channel like this one from Life Stream Soldiers.  Life Stream Soldiers consists of two guys who discuss issues about,  life the universe and everything, during game play.  Scotty and Rowley must be great at what they do because their Twitter feed nearly has 2,300 followers.

The Secrets Of Sleeping.

When we talk about being healthy we often forget that a good nights sleep is essential when it comes to our health and well being.  Being unable to sleep properly is generally an indication that all is not well in our lives and that we need to slow down and look at ways to improve our sleeping patterns.  The Sleep Council explains that, ‘Sleep is the mysterious shift in consciousness that our bodies require every day’. If we don’t manage to sleep, ‘it can lead to long-term health problems.’ Most of us need between six and nine hours sleep at night and this is best maintained by a regular bedtime routine.  What we do before we sleep is just as important as the bed we sleep in and the clothes we wear to bed.

It is very easy to slip into the habit of watching the television, sitting in front of a computer screen or surfing the net on smart phones before going to bed.  If you have difficulty sleeping, you should refrain from using these gadgets before bedtime because the light coming off them is confusing your brain.  It is very easy to get into a vicious cycle if you have a job that demands that you work in the evenings in front of a screen to switch off sufficiently to enable you to sleep well. A bad night’s sleep will cause the next day to be more stressful which in turn will make sleeping difficult and you will descend into a negative spiral of sleep deprivation and stress.

The NHS Choices website suggests that you make your bedroom an extremely pleasant environment that is only used for sleep and sex.  Apparently sex makes you sleepy, so there is no better excuse for engaging in carnal pleasures – just make sure that it is not after you have spent a night on the booze and it is three o’clock in the morning.  Studies have shown that children’s sleep is disturbed when there is a smart phone in their room so make sure that all smart phones are off and switch off the WiFi – it may help you to sleep well too.

Invest in a new mattress or bed – you will be amazed at the difference a new one makes, add sift furnishings, calm wall paper, relaxing pictures and dim the lights and start your bedtime routine.  Have a nice warm bath, put on a nice comfortable pair of pyjamas – these bottoms from Calvin Klein  and t-shirt from Calvin Klein are soft and comfortable and will help your body to remain at a nice comfortable ambient temperature.

If you have a crazy cat either let them go out at night or lock them in another room out of the way because they have the tendency to pester and purr loudly when you are trying to get to sleep.

This Extract from NHS Choices really sums up the best way to approach a sleeping problem –

Winding down is a critical stage in preparing for bed. There are many ways of relaxing:

  • A warm bath (not hot) will help your body reach a temperature that’s ideal for rest.
  • Writing “to do” lists for the next day can organise your thoughts and clear your mind of any distractions.
  • Relaxation exercises, such as light yoga stretches, help to relax the muscles. Don’t exercise vigorously, as it will have the opposite effect.
  • Relaxation CDs work by using a carefully narrated script, gentle hypnotic music and sound effects to relax the listener.
  • Reading a book or listening to the radio relaxes the mind by distracting it.

“Everyone will have their own way of relaxing,” says Alexander. “If you don’t know how to relax, you can get help and advice from your GP.”

The main message where sleeping is concerned is to make sure that you live your life in a healthy and careful way so that your body clock can readjust and sleep will come to you naturally.

Beer Garden Etiquette

We know it is not quite summer yet but us Brits like to strip off as soon as the sun pokes his head from behind the clouds. There is nowhere as wonderful as a beer garden on a warm sunlit day. Most pubs are very accommodating and provide heaters in the beer garden so we can enjoy a pint outside in the luke warm spring. For some of you it will be the first time you have ventured in a beer garden without lying about your age.

Today we are going to consider the unwritten rules of drinking in a beer garden. Here are five tips that will mean that you will be able to return to the same pub more than to just apologise.

Laugh So Only Your Friends Can Hear You

Quite frankly there is nothing more irritating than listening to a table full of drunk lads making a racket. Everyone likes to hear that people are having fun, but is that rude joke really that funny? Do we really need to hear about that incident in Magaluf you woke up without eye brows, wearing pink frilly knickers and a bra. The bottom line lads is treat the other people in the beer garden as you would your mum and dad.

Dress To Impress

You are really aiming for attire that not only feels comfortable but also looks great. Although almost any thing goes these days it is probably a good idea to wear smart casual clothes and footwear that cannot be penetrated by broken glass.  A beer garden favourite is either a long or short sleeved shirt without or without a t-shirt underneath, depending on the weather. You can choose to wear shorts, jeans or chinos and finish off with a pair of comfortable shoes.  If you want to make a statement wear a graphic t-shirt with a controversial image on it – you either go funny graphic like Logo Shirt or go really shocking like Religion! Whatever you do don’t go topless and discourage your girlfriend from doing so too.

I know we are all lucky to be equipped with a fantastic device that allows us to relieve ourselves where ever and when ever we want.  Fortunately the legal system has passed a series of laws that does make it an offence to shake your tackle in public.  Also people do tend to frown on such basic behaviour – it is cute if a two year old gets his dinky out to pee in the flower bed but not for a grown man.  Just go to the toilet and keep yourself out of trouble.

Either Join In Rounds Or Decline politely

This is a tricky one because you don’t want to look stingy but you may also want to avoid bankruptcy or a hell of a hangover in the morning.  As soon as you accept a drink from someone you are entering into a round situation the only way you can avoid it is by thinking the person who offers you and decline politely.  You will have to participate in rounds occasionally so that your mates don’t think that you are tight -why don’t you prepare yourself for that occurrence by saving up so you can pay for a round without feeling the pinch.  If you only go to the pub with three other mates then joining in rounds is a good way to bond and won’t cost you any more than you probably intended to spend in the first place.

Wear Sunscreen

If you don’t want to look like a sun dried tomato slap on the sunscreen, even if the sun is pretty dull, protecting your skin like this not only stops ageing and reduces the chances of skin cancer.  Make sure that you maintain your healthy good looks with sun cream.

A Well Meaning Guy’s Guide To Women

I know we are being very daring covering this topic in this world of equality and all that but sometimes it does feel as if men and women do speak a completely different language.  Basic simple issues that we don’t think are important can often trigger off an almighty row, leaving us gasping for air as if we have just been hit by an express train.  The two simple reasons this happens is because women never actually say what they mean and men don’t pick up on it.  So if your girlfriend tells you not to buy an Easter egg because she is on a diet – make sure you go out and buy the most delicious egg you can find or there will be hell to pay on Easter Sunday.

Here are a few simple steps you can take to make your life with a woman much calmer and peaceful:-

Look Good

It is often hard to believe how long a lady takes to look as if she has just got up and looking as fresh as a daisy.  Often applying flawless make up requires the skill of a graphic artist.  Let’s  not even talk about the hair because if her hair is naturally curly she will make every effort to straighten it and vice versa. Now friends take it from us, women love shoes and seem to have a pair for everyday of the year and for every occasion. How many times have you put on either your scuffed leather boots or your scummy trainers and your other half has appeared in sparkling pristine shoes?  If she is a shoe person she may find your comfortable but filthy shoes insulting.  The solution is simple – buy a pair of trainers that  can almost pass as a pair of shoes and only wear them on pavements.  These trainers from Lacoste look great and could be worn with a suit of well ironed pair of jeans.

Have A Bath

Most men like to get wet but some actually do, if you are not really into personal hygiene as much as you should.  Make sure you top and tail everyday and take a fragrant bath or shower once a week.  If you see your girlfriend regularly please try to shower more often – it isn’t fresh sweat they dislike, (in fact women find it rather appealing) it is old sour sweat that lingers on your clothes and smells rancid they don’t like.  You may get more action in the bedroom if you are nice and clean.

Make Decisions but don’t be Too Dominating

This is quite a tricky one simply because a woman doesn’t really like someone indecisive and a ditherer because this can be a sign of weakness – but they hate being bossed around so you have to approach this very carefully.  You need to approach every situation confidently and open to negotiation, make sure you stand your ground occasionally just to let her know that you cannot be walked over.  Never order her meal on her behalf or cancel anything without pretending to discuss it with her first.  You may need to study the way your lady’s mind works to be able to do this successfully.

Be Caring but not Possessive

Men can often come across as possessive when in fact they are only being caring.  Please avoid acting like a time keeper if she is a little bit late and don’t log her shopping bags in like some kind of auditor.  Ask her how her day has been and respond accordingly.  If she has had an awful day she will want to talk about it – now what ever you do, don’t try to solve her problems or repeat them back in your own subtle as a sledge hammer way.  sympathise, run her a bath, light candles, pour out wine and give her chocolates – this is a far more effective way of showing you care than compounding the problem even more.  Also whatever you do please listen so that when she talks about it again you don’t look as if it is the first time you heard it.
